2007 Native American Smurfs Set
![]() In late 2006, Schleich (manufacturer of the Smurf figurines) announced that the 2007 Smurf set was going to be a themed set of "Native American Smurfs!" We are very pleased with yet another US-friendly themed set - is Schleich doing this in anticipation of the US Smurf revival planned for 2008 - the 50th Anniversary of the Smurfs? We know I.M.P.S. (owners of the Smurfs character) has struck a movie deal for 2008, and surely it will be accompanied by an increased demand for all things Smurf - both the Schleich figurines, as well as all sorts of other licensed Smurf stuff! These Smurfs were designed and mold-injected in Germany and then hand painted and labeled in Tunisia (on the north tip of Africa, between Algeria and Libya). The quality on this set (as well as all current production Smurfs) is very good. The paint job is colorful and neatness and attention to detail are exceptional - we no longer see the sloppy paint jobs typical of Smurfs painted in China years ago. The PVC is also much more durable than it used to be; thin areas do not bend easily, a problem that caused the paint to crack on older pieces. The figurines are marked "© 06," "Peyo," "CE," "Schleich S Germany," and "Made In Germany" with the mold #. They have a "bracelet" sticker on them with "Schleich S" on one side and "CE" with a barcode and the Schleich # on the other side. The following are the Schleich #'s and a brief description of each figurine: 20549 Canoe Smurf - This Smurf wears a green-trimmed loincloth over tan leggings. the top half of his face is pained dark blue and he has turquoise & red-tipped feathers in his hat and wears moccasin with green and white trim. He is using both hands to paddle a canoe trimmed in red and white and with a red zig-zag pattern along the side. This is a 2-piece mold. The canoe and bottom half on the Smurf are from one mold, while the upper half of the Smurf is from another. This allowed them to include a lot more painted detail on the Smurfs lower half than would have been possible if they had molded him in one piece - nice job Schleich! 20550 Spear Smurf - This smurf is wearing leather moccasins, a vest and pants belted with a toothed belt. He has a dark blue bandana around his head, paint under his eyes and he is yelling as he hoists a spear over his head accented with red-tipped feathers and tipped with a silver-metallic point lashed to the shaft. 20551 Archer Smurf - This Smurf sports a burgandy mane down the back of his hat, a purple paint over his eyes, yellow armbands and loincloth and green-trimmed moccasins. He has loaded a silver-tipped arrow int his bow, and closes one eye and sticks out his tongue as he concentrates on his target. 20552 Raindancer Smurf - This Smurf sports a red-tipped feather tucked into a green and beige band around his hat. He wears red and white paint on his face, a yellow loincloth, no shoes and is swinging a tomahawk about as he whoops and hollers for rain. 20553 Peace Pipe Smurf - The red-tipped feathers tucked into this Smurf's green and beige hat band are drooping. He is barefoot with a yellow loincloth, and holds a wooden peace pipe adorned with a white zig-zag and tied with dark blue-tipped feathers. His eyelids are droopy and he has a hand to his mouth - he appears to be coughing or choking on some smoke from the pipe. 20554 Medicine Man Smurf - This Smurf wears a buffalo cape and horns accented with red-tipped feathers. He wears leather leggings and moccasins and has his eyes closed and arms crossed as he concentrates on his chanting. 20555 Native American Smurfette - Here is Smurfette with black braided hair! She has brown-tipped feathers in her hat, and a leather dress and shoes - and who's that napping on her back in a baby papoose? Why, it's Baby Smurf! 20556 Chief Smurf - This Smurf's brack hair is parted in the middle and tied with leather down either side of his face. He sports a Chief's headdress wth black-tipped feathers and leather tassles. He is sitting with his legs crossed and wrapped in a tan blanket with green and red trim. His eyes are closed, and he appears to be speaking.
