Some of you may recall our plea for information and memories about "The Smurfs' Enchanted Voyage" ride in Kings Island, Ohio which appeared in our last issue. Well, Suzanne (Founder & Editor of the S.C.C.I.) recently contacted us with this Smurfy info: "In 1991 when the Kings Island Smurf display from the "Hanna Barbara" Land was dismantled, Kings Island contacted the Smurf Collectors Club International in New York. To make a long story short, one of our members is the proud owner of the Smurfs from Kings Island. This was a "Dream Come True" for this very avid and long-time Smurf collector. He displays the Smurfs around his swimming pool and they are a real "Eye Catcher." This display was featured on the TV Show FX a number of years ago! Thanks Suzanne! (For more info on the SCCI (The world's biggest and best Smurf club!), please contact Suzanne directly at nysmurfette@juno.com and tell her Pete from eSmurfs.com sent you!) 2) NOS (NEW OLD STOCK) ARRIVING BY THE TRUCKLOAD! We have received the first of a series of parcels containing the finest condition Smurfs money can buy. Every last one of these exciting pieces is vintage, factory-mint store stock that never sold! They are not pre-owned, they have never been played with, the general public has never handled them! This is absolutely the finest "Collector-Quality" that one can obtain, and all of it is offered at prices other dealers ask for pre-owned, often less-than-Mint Smurfs! NOBODY else has access to our sources for these pristine figurines! ONLY eSmurfs.com is able to bring you this kind of quality, fully guaranteed to be factory Mint, or 100% of your money back! We simply do not carry anything less than The Best! A few items of note in the latest parcel are 20069 Jungle (both the light and dark PVC color variations), 20409 Patriot, 20143 CB Operator (short silver antenna), 20054 First Aid (Yellow suitcase with cross), 20091 Skier, 20096 Sledgehammer (both the dark hammer, and the lighter Bully hammer), 20030 torchrunner, 20164 Papa with lab glass (Orange beaker color variation) and much, much more! As parcels continue to arrive, we will announce some of the more interesting items here. For the most part, however, we are not adding new items to our inventory, just stocking up for the coming months…we already carry well over 95% of the normal range at all times, and dozens of rare mold and color variations are also available! 3) SMURF PRESERVATION AND DISPLAY We sometimes get questions asking about the proper preservation and display of Smurf figurines. With many pieces now commanding hundreds of dollars, it's worth it to spend a little time and money protecting the value of your collection! Three culprits to monitor are sunlight, humidity, and temperature. Direct sunlight dries out materials and produces ultraviolet rays that discolor them. Never store your collectibles in direct sunlight. Incandescent light (the average light bulbs) is preferred over fluorescent lighting, but don't put objects close enough to the light source for the heat to effect them. Humidity is the level of moisture in the air. Damp environments promote the growth of mold, fungus and mildew which can permanently stain PVC. The preferred relative humidity in a storage area should be between 45 and 55 percent. Readings of more than 65% are considered in the danger zone. It should be noted that too dry an environment, especially combined with high temperature, can dry out materials, causing discoloration, color changes, cracking and flaking of paint. Extreme temperatures, regardless of humidity, should always be avoided. Items should never be stored near radiators, fireplaces, heating vents, etc. Do not store valuable items in the garage or attic where they can experience extremes. Basements can be used if they are relatively dry. When you display your collection, some thought should go towards controlling these factors. We use acrylic display cases manufactured by K&S Industries (http://www.888pickkns.com). These wall mounting display cases are customized for a variety of collectibles. Item #24ND is ideal for displaying Smurf PVC's. Overall size is approximately 24"x29"x4" and yields 8 large compartments each measuring 2 13/16" high between shelves x 28 5/8" long. The case is crystal clear with a clear hinged front cover and mirrored back and comes ready to wall mount with supplied hardware. They are $82 each, or $258.00 when you order a 3 piece carton (includes shipping and handling.) All of our high-end Smurfs are stored in this display. A "microclimate" is maintained inside the case that protects your collection from extremes in temperature and humidity. It should be mounted away from direct sunlight. The hinged cover allows easy access to your collection, yet it keeps out dust and protects your Smurfs from accidents. For more information, please visit K&S Industries website at http://www.888pickkns.com and check out the miscellaneous page at http://888pickkns.com/shopsite/Miscellaneous.html. 4) CONFIRMED SMURFS SIGHTINGS ON BOOMERANG!
