Some break, I busted my Smurf moving everything to the new mushroom, but things are looking Smurfy! I have decided to move eSmurfs from the warehouse back into my new home in Bayside. Many bug changes are in store for how we operate but the bottom line is it will be better to all of you! "Headquarters" and "The Warehouse" are now right at my fingertips, so I can serve you better! We have quite a few items featured below, perhaps the most exciting is the big news of the Summer - THE NEW 2001 SUPER SMURFS ARE HERE!! So let's get to it, kick back and enjoy this month's News... -Pete http://www.esmurfs.com ========= CONTENTS ========= 1) NEW 2001 SUPER SMURFS ON SALE NOW! 2) METRO TV WANTS TO SEE YOUR COLLECTION! 3) NEW IN THE SMURF SHOP 4) HEARD IT ON THE SMURF VINE 5) FROM THE MAILBAG 6) CURSIN' SMURF NO LAUGHING MATTER 7) MEMBER REPORTS 8) SMURFY NEWS GIVE-A-WAY ====================================== 1) NEW 2001 SUPER SMURFS ON SALE NOW! ====================================== Well, Schleich's promise to me to have the new Supers in the U.S. by mid August has been realized! A supply of Supers are finally on their way here for eSmurfs' members! I am accepting orders right now for the five figurines, either as a set, or individually. Please visit our home page at http://www.esmurfs.com to purchase the set of five Supers for just $30 or visit the Smurf Shop to buy them individually: http://www.esmurfs.com/smurfs-shop.html AOL Click Here 40261 Smurf on Vacation and 40262 Smurfette on Vacation are my favorites. The Smurf is white injected PVC and painted with a very glossy blue. He is relaxing much like 20014 Sunbather, only he is sporting a cool pair of matte blue shades and a matte red bathing suit monogrammed with an "S" (hand-painted on it.) Smurfette is sitting up and waving. She is also white injected PVC and painted with a high-gloss blueand wearing a matte pink bikini and has a starfish on her hat. Both come with identical hard plastic palm trees and hard plastic beach towels from the same mold. One side of the blanket has wavy stripes embossed into it, and the other side has circles. The Smurf's towel is injected in yellow and the wavy line side is painted with stripes and faces up. Smurfette's towel is red and has the circles facing up. 40263 Smurf with Laptop is the most popular new Super, as far as sales go. I guess that's natural since many people who visit eSmurfs use and like computers. His tail looks a little funny, they squashed it so he'd fit in his chair, instead of molding a hole into the chair for his tail, like they usually do. He's working at a white desk with a neat laptop computer. The computer is hinged and opens and closes, that's neat! The laptop is running Windows (there are scroll bars on the side and bottom of the screen) and with a touch pad mouse built in. The Smurf has his finger out like he is moving the mouse. A picture of Smurf Village is on the screen. He is white injected PVC and painted a glossy blue. He is wearing modern clothing; a yellow shirt, dark blue pants and orange shoes, all matte paint. 40264 Wild in Leaf Car and 40265 Smurfette in Mushroom Car are also very cool Supers, don't let them get lost in the shadows! Are these the Smurf cars Infogrames told me may be released as promo pieces with 3-2-1 Smurf!, the UK version of Smurf Racer? I never heard any more about that. Can anyone with Smurf Racer or 3-2-1 Smurf! tell us if there are cars in that game that look like this? Wild is blue injercted PVC and of course he is wearing his trademark hat and loincloth. His car is fashioned from a hollowed stump with a large leaf serving as the hood. Smurfette is white injected PVC and wearing her simple white dress. Her car is made from a giant spotted pink mushroom! The rear end is covered with flower-dotted grass. Both cars race along when pushed, as the wheels really spin. I really like these last two because they hearken back to the old "natural" smurfs. No modern equipment or clothing on these two, just natural Smurfy fun! All of the Smurfs are are painted with a high-gloss blue except for Wild, which is matte since his skin is the unpainted blue PVC. I am surprised the Smurf on Vacation was not blue injected too, he is primarily blue. All the pieces are marked "Schleich Germany Made in China 2000 Peyo" and bear the CE mark. Each of them has a blue paint dot on the foot. If anyone discovers variations in the new Smurfs, please report your findings to us right away! ========================================== 2) METRO TV WANTS TO SEE YOUR COLLECTION! ========================================== I was contacted by Dina Muradian, Coordinating Producer for Metro TV (Channel 70 on Time Warner Cable in NY.) METRO TV has an exciting new series called "Hot Property." It's all about New York collectors and collections - everything from fine art to PEZ dispensers. Dina came to me and asked for my help in finding some New York Smurf Collectors who might be interested in appearing on an episode devoted to toy collecting. Here is some more info she sent: METRO TV WANTS TO SEE YOUR COLLECTION!!! METRO TV has an exciting new series called "Hot Property." It's all about New York collectors and collections - everything from fine art to PEZ dispensers. We are looking for New Yorkers in the metro area with any type of collection and the stories behind it. No collection is too small or too big; too refined or too mundane. The important thing is that you are passionate about what you collect and that you have some great stories along with your collection. Maybe your wife threatened to leave if you didn't move your hundreds of old records down to the basement. Or maybe you can't pay the rent this month, because you just purchased an amazing vintage hat off of Ebay. So, if you collect anything and you have some great stories, we want to see your collection. Get your tape in today and get the chance to show your collection on Metro TV. SCRIPT SHEET 1.) Start: Stand alone in front of the camera with your collection surrounding you. (Basically make it interesting looking.) 2.) State your name, where you're from, and what you collect. 3.) Story guidelines: a.) Tell us the story behind the collection - how you got it, where you got it, how hard it was to find, etc. Be descriptive! b.) Pick your 3 most favorite pieces and tell us why they are you're favorites. Be descriptive! c.) Tell us what your stuff is worth and what you paid for it. Be specific! d.) Tell us what made you start your collection and why you collect what you collect. Be descriptive! e.) Tell us what you would most want to add to your collection, if anything. Be descriptive! f.) Finally, show us your entire collection - shoot close ups and wide shots of everything. We want a variety of shots to choose from. There is no such thing as wasting tape. 4.) By submitting your tape to us, you are giving us permission to use your tape on air and you will be required to sign a release form. 5.) No fees will be paid by Metro Channels and no tapes will be returned. Here are a few pointers to keep in mind while you're shooting your tape. Show us what you are talking about: Show us everything in your collection. Take us around your room; the more we see, the better. Use a new tape: Make sure to use a new tape, so that your video submission will look the best it can. We accept all types of tapes - the big ones and the small ones. You don't have to dub them to a VHS tape. Close is cool: Stay close to your subjects. We're not saying that you should necessarily put the camera in their faces, but stay within six feet of your subject. This makes for much better lighting and sound. No logos: Do not wear logos of any kind on your hat, coat, shirt, etc. Avoid windows: If you shoot someone who is standing in front of a window, that person will look like one big shadow. Generally, it is always best to have the sun at the back of the camera. Look us in the lens: Make sure you look at the camera when you're speaking. Let there be light: Do not shine a spotlight, but do try to make sure that the room in which you are shooting is well lit. Sound: There is only a small mic in the camera, so please be sure to speak loud and clear. No music: Do not have music playing the background. No TV: It is important that we are able to hear you, so please make sure there are no TV's on in the background. Don't edit: We want to see everything you see. Feel free to try things two or three times. Don't be afraid of making mistakes. We want to see your true, unedited personality. Labeling: Make sure you label your tape with your name, full address, phone number(s), age, and what you collect. SEND TAPES TO: Metro Channels 481 8th Avenue, 12th Floor New York, NY 10001 Attn: Dina Muradian Please contact Dina at 212-324-8575 if you have any questions, and tell her you were referred by Peter Caparelli at eSmurfs.com If you submit a tape, please let me know! I hope to see you and your collection on Metro TV! ========================= 3) NEW IN THE SMURF SHOP ========================= There are no *all new* additions to the Smurf Shop, as I have been very busy this past month moving into the new mushroom and have not had many opportunities to explore new items. I will announce any new items in the next Smurfy News, or check in at eSmurfs.com's bulletin board for sporadic announcements of new items! ============================== 4) HEARD IT ON THE SMURF VINE ============================== Anonymous: What's up with the tesatversion Smurfette jumping a blue rope I see on eBay? Rumor: In the late 80's the smurfette with jumping rope was produced in Portugal. They soon found out that the rope was too thin and often broke. So they tested a new variation and tried the "blue rope" before they finally came up with the thick white rope. That's where these testversions are from. Our Expert Says: It's a good story, but I don't buy it. I doubt this mold was ever in Portugal. The thin rope was in Hong Kong. There is to much controversy over these test versions and who made them. Test versions in my knowledge should not have been made in these quantities. I would not touch it in my opinion." --==--==--==-- Do you need clarification on a Smurfy rumor? Send it to eSmurfs.com and let us see what we can dig up! ===================== 5) FROM THE MAIL BAG ===================== Hi from Barcelona. Only a few lines to say that the "Jo love aquests colors" poster is from Catalunya; the smurf has the Catalunya flag and wears the Barcelona football team clothes. And the Stand smurf that says "Jo cule" means he is a Barcelona football team fan, like if he said "I hooligan" or "I tiffossi". Joan Pete: [These are items listed in the Smurf Shop...] But the Jo Cule Smurf-a-Gram is playing field hockey, not football?! Joan: Well, Barcelona teams includes soccer, hockey, handball, Football, basketball, etc, and all is the same team, the same company, the same Club. Pete: I did not know that, Thanks for writing Joan! Thanks for the info! --==--==--==-- Hi there just to let you know last week in Germany a NEW smurf comic was released. This is a NEW 44 pages long story created by Peyo's son Thierry Culliford about trouble in the smurf village. German title "Die Schluempfe in Gefahr" (English title could be "The smurfs in danger") (French original title: "La Menace Schtroumpf") Please check your book/comic store for a issue in your language. angelsmurf Pete: Thanks for the report! --==--==--==-- Hi Pete, I found this through a friend, thought you might enjoy it. http://www-personal.umich.edu/~mule/smurfgen.html Keep Smiling! Jeri Pete: Well, I guess it's Smurf related! Thanks Jeri! ==================================== 6) CURSIN' SMURF NO LAUGHING MATTER ==================================== Cuddly dolls spew expletive when squeezed (An old newspaper reprint) BRANTFORD - Two-and-a-half-year-old Amber Dufty has been swearing up a storm since Santa left her a cuddly talking Smurf for Christmas. She has been reprimanded daily foir using foul language as her mother tried to determine the cause of this unusual behavior. Finally the girl's 12-year-old aunt heard the same expression from Amber's new doll - the Berry Lovin Baby Smurf. A squeeze of the doll's hand caused it to giggle, followed by a garbled sentence. The pink toy appears to say, "Who gives a f----." Amber's Grandmother, Deborah Osborn, recognized the sentance immediately when she was called by her frantic daughter. Friends claimed they heard the same expression. Irwin Toy Limited, which manufactures Smurfs, is investigation after receiving a few complaints, said a customer service representative. She couldn't say what the doll was designed to say. REMOVED FROM SHELVES The Wal-Mart store at Brantford Mall, which sold the doll, has removed six remaining boxes from it's shelf and sent one to it's head office for testing. We have no reason to believe there is an issue with the toy," said Wal-Mart spokesman Edward Gould. But the toy was removed as part of the normal customer satisfaction policy. (The article was accompanied by a photo with this caption; "Amber Duffy with her Grandmother, Deborah Osborn, and the Berry Luvin' Baby Smurf, which speaks in language too colorful for children.) Thanks Dirk for sending this along for everyone's enjoyment! ================== 7) MEMBER REPORTS ================== Our member Joyce reports: "Did you guys know that there is a Dutch commercial with smurfs in it?
