I spoke with Scleich at the 2007 NYC Toy Fair last month and I have some bad news
Although the did say they believe the US Smurfs DVD will be out later this year, the script for the movie was only recently approved by IMPS, and the exspectation is that there is not enough time now to complete the movie in time for a 2008 release - we are now looking at 2009!!
BTW, we recently purchased most of Timeless Trinkets Smurf stock and so. We also recently purchased Astro's Treasure Chest's Smurf stock. Both of these sites are pulling out of the Smurf business. We are hanging in there!! Don't worry!!
