Calvin: You know what I've noticed, Hobbes? Things don't bug you much if you don't think about them. So from now on, I simply won't think about anything I don't like, and I'll be happy all the time!

Hobbes: Don't you think that's a pretty silly and irresponsible way to live?

Calvin: What a pretty afternoon...

Re: Another Schoenwald Promo Smurf!

I thought this selection of figure was odd - usually it ties into the resort somehow - golfing, snowboarding, tourist, workaholic, hiker - but a Witch stirring a couldron? Well, maybe there is something to it's being located in the Black Forest :)

I'm going to put together a Smurfy News ASAP so I can guage interest before I place my order - I'm going to order enough for the pre-orders and just a bit more. I'll offer extras on a first-come, first-served basis, but if anyone wants to be SURE they get one, better place a preorder. I will not restock once I sell out.

I have a full set so far, but I'd gladly pay $25-$35 in order to acquire an older one if I needed it. They seem to be pretty hard to come by once the initial release is out there.

I was also talking to Schleich at the NYC toy fair and was told that Schoenwald was given a special deal on these, but they were to use them as premiums (give-a-way) only. They were surprised to find out Schoenwalds sold them in the tourist shop, and also offers them to Smurf dealers. I was afraid I may have gotten them in trouble and maybe we'd see no more, but sure enough, here's another one.

(Schleich's usual deal is they produce the promo, and a 5,000 piece minimum is required. With Schoenwald, they were allowed to buy blank Gram bases, print their own stickers, buy loose Smurfs, and make the promos themselves by gluing figures to the base with the sticker applied. They have produced them in quantities far fewer than the usual 5,000 minimum, so these are good investments!)

Mark my words - when the Smurf movie comes out in 2008, there will be a surge in Smurf collecting and Smurf values - when more people are after the same limited # of pieces, the values will go up across the board. A lot of new stock will come to market, dug out of closets, etc., but based on what I've seen in the past with other collectibles, the new pieces will be absorbed into the collecting community, and there still won't be enough going around to meet the heightened demand for Smurfs, so values will go up. Of course, what goes up must come down. The movie could just produce a surge that then dies down, no way to know if it will take off...

Remember, you heard it here first!
